Hi Mark,

Presumably you are going to present some ideas on geoengineering.
Whatever you are presenting, I think it's important to point out that we
need all the weapons at our disposal to reduce risk of climate
catastrophe, and different approaches are applicable for different
purposes. So SRM could save the Arctic, but not help with ocean
acidification, whereas carbon stock management cannot help in the Arctic
but could halt ocean acidification. And geoengineering must be combined
with aggressive emissions reduction, so it's not a question of one or
the other. See the open letter to Dr Pachauri.

The most urgent problems are the potential tipping points - loss of
Amazon rainforest and loss of Arctic sea ice. If these were to go, all
hell could be let loose. Yet neither of these can be prevented by
emissions reduction, which is a long term strategy and absolutely
necessary for sustainability.

You have a platform to make these points, so make the most of it! I
shall try and be there, next weekend.

Cheers from Chiswick,

John
