As greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise, and the terms of a global deal
in Copenhagen hang in the balance, radical solutions to climate change are
receiving increasing attention. Proposals under discussion include
geoengineering: deliberate large-scale intervention in the Earth's climate
system.

Over the past year, a Royal Society expert group has been looking in-depth
at the feasibility, risks and uncertainties of geoengineering approaches,
within the broader context of responses to climate change.

The report makes recommendations to ensure that any geoengineering
activities are managed responsibly at national and international levels, and
do not detract from wider efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
