Dear Stephen--Well, they don't show changes over the ocean, and they are typically less due to heat capacity and evaporative cooling effect, and of course they are large in area. Of course, the evaporative cooling effect just leads to more water vapor aloft available to come down in more intense downpours and tropical cyclones.
