Hi all:

On November 24th, Ken suggested an approach to guide geoengineering
research. He decoupled three areas of geoengineering: CDR, SRM and
threat/response assessment in some key climate-change risk areas.

Since CDR methods are of interest to me I have taken the initiative to
enumerate those relevant discussions that take place in this forum at
the end of each month (without editorial).  This will allow other
interested people to more easily find the various conversation
threads.

It's not yet the end of the month, but I'd like to give a preview so I
can get your comments on the format and usefulness before I post the
summary later this week.  Thanks for any comments.

NB: sometimes a post/discussion is buried in a thread that is not
primarily about CDR. I've identified the names of those involved
within those posts that have raised a point related to CDR. The
'thread date' refers to the most recent posting (easier to find the
thread), not necessarily the date of the CDR discussion.

November CDR discussions:

A.1. Approaches that involve biological organisms to remove greenhouse
gases from the atmosphere

Ocean Fertilization:
Thread date: Nov. 25:  "[geo] scale, scope, structure", Oliver
Wingenter & Dan Whaley
Thread date: Nov 24: '[geo] scale, scope, emphasis, and structure of
research programs (or program), M V Bhaskar
Thread date: Nov. 7: "[geo] . . . "Economical Reef Systems" . . .",
Johnnie Buttram, Andrew Lockley

Afforestation and Living Biomass:
Thread date: Nov. 26: "[geo] tree cluster bomb - spreading tree seeds
from planes", Andrew Lockley, Neil Farbstein,
Thread date: Nov. 17: "[geo] CO2 Quantification", Brennan J
Thread date: Nov. 16: "[geo] 40-Page Preliminary Proposal for
Geoengineering Subtropical Deserts, Sunhydrosystems", Greg Rau
Thread date: Nov. 15: "[geo] Fwd: [marinet] How seabed destruction
aids Global Warming", Andrew Lockley

Algae Cultivation:
Thread date: Nov. 25: "[geo] large scale algae culture in oceans",
John Nissen, M V Bhaskar

Biochar:
Thread date: Nov. 18: "[geo] Commercial Biochar company charged with
running Ponzi scheme", jim thomas, Dan Whaley

A.2. Approaches that use chemical engineering methods to remove
greenhouse gases from the atmosphere

(none)

A.3. General CDR:
Thread date: Nov. 23 "[geo] What CNN is saying", Greg Rau
NB: page 4 "Carbon-sucking machines", page 5 "Ocean seeding", page 7 "Biochar"
Thread date: Nov.20, "Seas Grow Less Effective at Absorbing
Emissions", Veli Albert Kallio

NB:
A.3. Approaches that prevent positive GHG feedbacks
A.4. Large scale human food and water security (and relocation) projects
[sub-categories proposed by Albert Kallio -- I think these may be
better placed in Ken's category 'C']

best regards,

Glyn
