Here's a patent which, whilst a bit outlandish, could possibly be adapted for lobbing tanks of sulfur into the stratosphere. I also remember another idea where a payload is submerged at the bottom of a deep ocean tubelike a gun barrel, perhaps miles long (and presumably flaring at the bottom). The water above the payload is pumped out, and then when water is allowed in to the bottom of the barrel below the payload, it gets chucked out of the top at a high speed. I'm not sure it would be able to get the Mach multiples needed, though. I did try to find info on the technique, but an online search revealed nothing.
