Hi Stephen and group, I was at the meeting this morning. Here's a summary of what I took out of the talk, which was delivered by Ed Dlugokencky.
- the already reported growth in CH4 concentrations has continued in the latest data - they don't think this is because of a decrease in the sink strength from OH radicals - they think wetland emissions, especially in Asia (where it has been wet) but also in the Arctic (where it has been warm and wet) were the cause - as the Arctic warms, wetland emissions there will continue to increase - but we are not at an Arctic tipping point, and I quote "In terms of a tipping point where suddenly a huge burst of methane [comes out of the Arctic], I just can't see that happening." Actually the only 'news' from the talk is that the trend from 2007/08 has continued, although of course that in itself is significant.
