I studied the discussion from last April.  That was started by you  also.  
The mud volcano issue came up there as well (in a  reference).  I did not 
see a compelling argument there against the  possibility of triggering 
eruptions.
 
Why the interest in mud volcanoes?  They appear to be small events,  and I 
can't see their benefit.
 
You may recall that I have an interest in triggering volcanoes, especially  
marine ones.  I have thought about the prospects of triggering an eruption, 
 and maybe I have an idea or two.  I noticed a report of a study showing an 
 increase in volcanic activity following rain.

It is also well established that water can cause earth shifts by  
lubricating fault lines or otherwise, thus causing earthquakes.  And,  
earthquakes 
can trigger eruptions. 
 
Of course, we are talking about eruptions that would have happened anyway,  
but at a future time.
 
Soo-- I propose that one consider the possibility of igniting  a volcano by 
injecting a lubricant, possibly water, into a suitable fault  plane.
 
Some volcanoes are extremely dangerous, the yellowstone caldera for  
example.  I think this one would be easy to trigger--it would promptly  bring 
global warming to an end, but much of earth life would end at the  same time.  
It could be hard to find the right situation.   My  view is that a volcano 
has two possible benefits: (1) injection of sulfate  /SO2 aerosol into the 
stratosphere and (2) release of basic magma or ash  into the biosphere (either 
air or water) so as to absorb CO2.  Either  effect could be favored by 
choice of volcano.
 
I don't have a great knowledge of geology.  But, I think this line of  
thought should be pursued.
