In case you were wondering, the SPICE press office completely ignored my
request for further info.

I think they've been stamped on for being controversial, and they're trying
to keep a low profile

Reminds me of Galileo

Sir

I write with deep concern at the news of the delay to the SPICE experiment.

Please can you provide a fuller statement regarding the delay to this
project? It is extremely worrying that these benign and important
experiments in climate science are being held up, based on what appears to
be political lobbying.

It does no service to the debate around geoengineering when crucial safety
and efficacy research is held up, seemingly by lobbying motivated by a fear
of knowledge.

I hope you can reassure the scientists and engineers working in this field
that these benign and important experiments will soon be restarted, and that
further unnecessary delays will not be allowed to occur.

Society must not allow a situation where neo-luddites hold back the
development of technology which may protect humanity from catastrophic
climate change. In fact, such delays simply make it more likely that the
technology will be deployed in a panic without crucial safety research.

I keenly await your response.

Sincerely

Andrew Lockley MEng
