Thursday, March 7, 2013 - 4:30pm- 8:00pm Oxford University Geoengineering - an Insurance Policy for Planet Earth? Geoengineering is the deliberate large-scale intervention in the Earth's natural systems to counteract climate change. There are a wide range of proposed techniques which aim to cool the planet by bouncing a fraction of the sun's light back into space or by removing CO2 from the atmosphere. Tim Kruger runs the Oxford Geoengineering Programme at the University of Oxford, which aims to assess the social, environmental and technical issues associated with all proposed geoengineering techniques to determine which, if any, of them could be employed without creating countervailing side-effects.
