Abstract We've all heard about climate change, but have you heard about scientists who think we could put mirrors in space to cool the climate? Have you heard about technologies that might be able to suck greenhouse gases out of the air? What about the idea that we could use technology to mimic the cooling effect that a large volcanic eruption has on climate? All these ideas belong to a diverse group of "geoengineering" technologies, that are attracting increasing interest. The world is warming and international action to curb emissions is progressing at a snails pace. As a result many scientists are looking to geoengineering technologies like these for alternative ways of managing the problem. This Cafe Conversation is a chance for anyone interested in learning more to come and speak to scientists from the University of East Anglia about geoengineering. And we want to know what you think too. Will technology offer us salvation from climate change? Or do we risk meddling in a system too complex for humans to understand? Light refreshments will be provided.
