The successful applicant will be involved in integrated assessment of
climate change. This research activity is led by the Research
Domain Sustainable Solutions chaired by Prof. Dr. Ottmar Edenhofer, who
also serves as IPCC co-chair of Working Group III on Mitigation of Climate
Change. She or he will become a PhD candidate under the formal supervision
of Ottmar Edenhofer, Professor at Technische Universität Berlin.The
successful candidate will assess a number of Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR)
Technologies, including direct air capture and enhanced weathering of
rocks, and implement them in the energy-economy-climate model ReMIND. She
or he will apply an integrated assessment framework that couples an energy
systems model with a global land use model. The work will comprise an
in-depth analysis of the trade-offs and synergies between mitigation
options and CDR technologies in various policy and scenario contexts.A
background in Economics, Engineering, Physics or a related field with a
strong interest in inter-disciplinary research and team work is required.We
expect candidates to have quantitative training and interest in applied
modelling. A strong interest for inter-disciplinary climate related
research is required. Good programming and analytical skills are a
requirement. Experience with R and economic modeling (preferably with GAMS)
is an advantage. Candidates should be proficient in English, and be able to
demonstrate the potential for excellence in research.The Potsdam Institute
