Alan et al., Beyond the call for further research, which can be found in virtually every paper issued by scientists, I cannot find a position statement.
If the target audience for this effort is the policy maker, even the most moronic policymakers are going to recognize that. I do fear that such a hollow statement coming from such a universally respected scientific community may be used as a tool against listening to science and scientists. This insane political scenario would not have occurred to me 12 months ago. Guess what happened? Unless the AGU is willing to step forward with concrete recommendations , containing specific marching orders, this type of "we need money" statement may cause more harm than good.
