I have no experience. Some thoughts-- Earth atmosphere mass: 5.15*10^18 kg. Mass of gas emitted by Mt. Pinatubo in 1991: 2.5*10^11 kg. On the other hand, the earth atmosphere is expected to contract by about 1% due to cooling. Satellite decay would be less.
