After a decade as a project housed at other NGOs, the SRM Governance
Initiative (SRMGI) has registered as an independent UK-based charity and
has rebranded as the Degrees Initiative <http://www.degrees.ngo>. Degrees
stands for “Developing country Governance, REsearch, and Evaluation of
SRM”.

SRMGI has led the world in building developing countries’ capacity to
evaluate SRM. Our programme of workshops in the Global South brought the
SRM discussion to new regions and our DECIMALS Fund is the first SRM
research fund aimed exclusively at developing countries.

The Degrees Initiative will continue this work. Our mission, vision and
values remain the same and the DECIMALS Fund will continue to operate
through a partnership with TWAS. Degrees will be governed by an experienced
board
of trustees
<https://www.srmgi.org/2021/11/10/srmgi-becomes-the-degrees-initiative-2/>
who will be responsible for the initiative’s oversight and good governance:
Mark Hilton, Saleemul Huq, Jackie Kado, Oliver Morton and John Shepherd.

We owe a debt of gratitude to TWAS and Environmental Defense Fund, who
hosted and nurtured SRMGI over its first decade and who have supported the
Degrees Initiative through the challenging transition from project to
standalone NGO.

More updates and announcements to come!
