I agree entirely with Bill Morris' comments on the way that interpretation
has changed with the advent of imaging. I also agree with his comments on
what will eventuate with 3D visualization. What I do not understand is
Geosoft's reluctance to tackle this new exciting world. Through a
combination of a Windows version of Magmod and a 3D version of WholePlot one
would have a very powerful interpretation tool. It would be great to view in
a 3D sense where our modelling sits in relation to previous drilling. Did
the drilling hit the body or with improved modelling and visualization can
we prove that it did not?
The notion of doing all the modelling in another package i.e other than
Montaj as proposed by Geosoft is fine in principle but bearing in mind that
exploration budgets are diminishing not growing and software budgets are not
above all this when it comes to annual maintenence bills some hard decisions
generally have to be made.

Subject: Re: [geonet]: Magnetic Type Curves for simple magnetic models -
3D solutions

Colleagues:

Following on from the on-going discussion regarding magnetic -type curves.

May I make a suggestion:

Prior to our current fascination with image production we spent a lot more
time
computing the geometry and physical property of magnetic models.

The outcome of this modelling exercise was a pseudo-geological map that
showed
the distribution of tabular bodies, pipes, steps etc. From this information
the
geologist in us took this information to develop a model of what was
happening.

Now we are on the threshold of 3D modelling. Surely we can now take our
simple
models place them on a Maplot image and look at this in 3D to develop better
geological models.

Perhaps this where teh Quikmag program of Encom is heading
