I am sending the same answer I have sent Emilson in Portuguese explaning how
to select a part of a database, or how to create a subset from a database...
now in English! :-)
The best way to create a subset from a database is to first create and apply
a mask to the X and/or Y channels and then create the new subset. Please,
follow the process described below:
1. Open the original databe.
2. Click in Utility menu, after in Window Data and then in Create
Rectangular Mask (or Create Polygonal Mask). A new dialog box will be
opened. Choose mask file name (*.PLY), select the Inclusive option and write
the Minimum X, Maximum X, Minimum Y and Maximum Y values to determinate a
sub area. Click in the New File button to save the mask file.
3. Go to the Utility menu again, select the Window Data item and click in
Window X, Y to Polygon Mask. Another dialog box will be opened and you must
select the mask file name you have created. After doing it, select the Dummy
Outside option and click Ok. You will see that only the points inside the
mask will have coordinate information (X and Y), the others will have dummy
(*).
4. If you want to create a new database including these valid points, go to
Data menu, select Export and then click in Subset GDB. You will see a dialog
box asking for the new file name. Select the lines and channels you want to
export to the new database (normally All). Select All Dummies option in the
field Remove mask Dummy and choose X or Y in the field Mask Channel. Click
Ok. You will create another database including only the selected points and
it will be ready to use in any other operations with Oasis montaj.
