Dear
List,
We are
currently investigating the issues, setup and costs involved in implementation
of a GX Exchange and will be able to provide you with more information as soon
as our investigation is complete. In the meantime, I would appreciate it if
Brian could send a separate email to me reviewing his ideas regarding
the GNU license.
Thanks,
Greg

I agree with Joe Duvall. I might just drop his
first point though. If #1. was a condition, I would have never have
offered my Grid Histogram GX, it also seems like you're making demands on
the person who in the first place is kind enough to offer the GX. I am in
total agreement with #2 and #3, after all, didn't Geosoft awhile ago make a
policy of removing 'copyright Geosost" off their GX's? Having said this, I
think #4 should also be extended to the person who is offering the GX, after
all if the person's offering it for no charge I think it's likewise unfair to
demand that the person offering the GX is not held responsible for the
performance of the GX.

Subject: Re: [geonet]: Grid Histogram
GX
I support the concept of a
user depository with files that could be downloaded. I personally
would only expect Geosoft to review the files for possible viruses and then
simply store them in an appropriate place. I suggest that Geosoft
would want to establish some rules and guidelines for such a site.
Some suggestions are: 1.
Each submission must include HTML files that describe the GX and what
it does. Geosoft could supply an HTML template to be used for this
purpose. 2. Each submission
must include the compiled GX as well as the relevant source code.
3. The submitter must agree to
relinquish all rights regarding distribution and modification. I
presume that there is some sort of legal wording for this type of
thing. 4. Any user
acknowledges that Geosoft is not responsible for support or proper
functioning of the GX nor warrants that its use will not cause any problems
on the user's
system. ******************************************************************************* Joseph
