The reduction to the pole is a process that recalculates the total magnetic intensity data as if the magnetic field had an inclination of 90 degrees. Dipolar magnetic anomalies are transformed to monopolar and are centered over the sources, like a gravity anomaly. The dipolar effect is removed, simplifying the interpretation. The process assumes that all the rock magnetization is induced and there is no remanance. The process does not work well near the magnetic equator.
You can apply the filter to a magnetic intensity grid with MagMap or to a database magnetic intensity value using 1dFFT. Inclination and declination of the local magnetic field must be provided. --- Forum archives can be accessed here: http://lyris.geosoft.com/read/?forum=geonet You are currently subscribed to geonet as: [email protected].
