Here are a couple of other potential items. I also had a good but quick conversation yesterday on this topic with Nigel Snoad who is interested in the area, might be useful if he has the time to bring him into the conversation or at least pick his brain as he has rather extensive experience in this area.

- A very basic offline/locally cached GeoNode - (this could be a first step to a full off-line GeoNode). Only functionality needed is the data management, so viewing, exporting and adding of data to the system. This would be the bridge between on the ground and remote support. One technical feature would be bandwidth management of the syncing.

- USB GeoNode data viewer - tool that works with the GeoNode system where you can set up the viewing/export of data that is stored on a USB drive for distribution in an emergency response situation.

Best,

Galen

Emergency Management GeoNode [was] Re: [geonode] Introducing ITHACA

Welcome!

I just sent an email on the 'roadmap process', and would love to get a
'GeoNode for emergency management' roadmap fleshed out.  We can discuss
a bit here, and then submit items to the roadmap tracker.

Awhile ago we talked to Schuyler Erle who went to Haiti after the
earthquake, and got some insight from him of potential features to make
GeoNode useful.  I just have one line sentences, would like to hear if
you agree, if you have more details, or more ideas.

* Localized data export - The ability to select an area of interest of a
data set and export _only_ the subset of data within that area of interest.

* A Verified/Unverified data listing - helps filter data by metadata
completeness. use case: needing to filter through lots of unverified
data for a sensitive purpose. (Maybe this could be a scaled ranking?)

* Low bandwidth UI - A stripped down UI for low bandwidth users. (Fewer
images, more static pages)

* Performance Tuning - Performance benchmarking and testing in various
conditions and application optimization.

* Hard metadata and data transfer - The ability to do a metadata catalog
dump from GeoNode that can then be transfered by USB and browsed
(offline? by another GeoNode?), and the ability to do an offline data
sync between GeoNodes when there is low connectivity and multiple local
machines.
