Hey all, I just spent a decent bit of time making a 'script' to take someone through the features of the site. I gotta say it's looking quite good, most all the core functionality is there and working. Great work everyone. Keep on pushing this month, getting all the little bugs polished out, and it's going to be something to be truly proud of at foss4g.
While doing the script I came across a bunch of little bugs and potential improvements. I'm happy to make tickets directly, but I'm sure there are some things on the list that should be 1.1 and perhaps beyond, some that are 1.0, and some in between. I'm happy for someone other than me to decide where they should go - just tell me the best workflow to get them on the roadmap and fixed. Issues: duplicate map doesn't work (tried as admin, not logged in, and cholmes) (with Rollie approval) - When creating or duplicating new style, it should first pop up the style edit box, so you can start by changing the style name, instead of having it just append _copy and then try to find where it is. It's ok if it appends _copy, it just should be editable right after you make the new one. Styles - apply/save huh? What does each mean? I can't seem to find a difference in the two In Map Composer, saved state and title stuff along top is unstyled, looks a bit ghetto. In Map Composer there are UT: buttons, that don't look great. Needs to be more obvious how to style from in map composer, ideally implement the integrated, clickable legends on http://projects.opengeo.org/geoext/wiki/Styler4GeoExplorer#PointsofEntry Would be nice to have ability to set default base layer on 'data' page, blue marble often looks pretty bad On data page should visually display bounding box. Ideally on data metadata editing could let people draw a bounding box Would love to see a 'for developers' link for each layer page, with links for tiles (on google, openlayers, bing), json + CQL on wfs, static images from WMS, geoext iframes, etc. Perhaps like an 'advanced' section that is at the bottom and expands when you click on it. The tiles links should link to embedded GWC in GeoServer. download zipped KML sucks, appears to just give a rasterized version, of even a small data set. Should use KML reflector with 'download' option, instead of just a WMS output. Even better we do that plus 'view in google earth' that does an active network link. Then we can tell the story how you can upload large datasets. In the data download section we should include JSON, CSV, Excel and GML 3.1.1 as output formats. We might consider cutting some of the WMS ones like jpg/png/pdf, as they're not too useful. Better for jpg/png would be a an equivalent of google's static image api - http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/staticmaps/ It could just be a WMS reflector call, like http://docs.geoserver.org/2.0.x/en/user/tutorials/wmsreflector.html This would be cool to have in the 'advanced' data download section Need 'sign up' implemented - I've seen it working on Ariel's local machine once - email temp password, etc. User profiles should list what maps and layers the person owns/created When not logged in and trying to save style should also have option to sign up, not just log in. Export Selected Zip from Data Search Page leads to internal server error Double clicking on a rule in Style mode would be nice if it opened the 'edit' window In Map Composer, 'Zoom to Visible Extent' doesn't do anything (and could maybe be named better?) In Map Composer, 'publish' button doesn't do anything In Map Composer, 'print' doesn't seem to do anything Map Composer has no obvious way to get out of it, are we planning links on a header? Or somewhere? Oh wait, 'More Info' gets you out - perhaps call it 'return to map page' or something No way to edit keywords or citation on a map that I could find Would be really good if we could accept a zipped shapefile in addition to selecting each field. Clean up on a failure to upload may not happen right - if I tried to upload a file named sfpd.zip, and then tried sfpd.shp with friends it didn't work, said the name was already taken. Was easy to change name, but it didn't seem like the name should have been reserved since things failed. Need way to reorder rules, at least in raster styling. Ideally drag and drop them. It's not intuitive how to delete a style from the data layer page - you have to go in to the style and hit 'delete' there. Remove dataset doesn't work, gets an internal server error, and data is still there. Remove map doesn't give an internal server error, but the map stays there Only Admin seems to get permissions gui on data layers to show up at all, even if he gives others admin permissions. The 'add user' permission doesn't do anything Can't upload new image for gravatar, I get 'Upload a valid image. The file you uploaded was either not an image or a corrupted image.' on images I'm pretty positive are valid. Getting ability to include shapefile.xml metadata with your data upload and have it automatically populate the metadata would be really awesome. I've been uploading shapefiles that have those, and end up looking at it to sorta fill out some of the metadata fields. In data search refine by area it'd be nicer if it was a map with some political boundaries, so you can look for areas, instead of just having to know where in the world something is (like south dakota) Would be really awesome and I think pretty easy to include Geonames search in the search by area refinement. See http://dev.geoext.org/ux/geoext.ux/ux/GeoNamesSearchCombo/examples/GeoNamesSearchComboExample.html Just do it completely client side, to move the bounds of the box, and that gets passed to the server Data search permalink sounds super awesome, but doesn't seem to work at all. Whenever I try it there are no results.
