Yes, it can. There is a script included with GeoNode which will register all layers in GeoServer with the GeoNode front end (allowing them to appear in search results, have layer info pages, have permissions assigned, etc.) However, the GeoNode web interface itself can only configure geotiff and shapefiles right now, so you should configure the postgresql/postgis layers "manually" by bypassing the GeoNode web interface and going straight to GeoServer.
