Thomas, The first geoserver errors are expected. GeoServer uses GeoNode to handle its authentication and authorization, so until GeoNode is up and running, this error is expected as GeoServer can in fact _not_ connect to GeoNode ... yet. There is a note in the documentation, but since so very many people come to the list with this same issue, I think we somehow need to make it much more clear.
The error in the pip command is a little more insidious, but it looks like it may be caused by one of the pypi repos not answering. Can you try it again and see if its now working?
