GeoNode does not use cascaded WMS right now.  I have actually been in touch
with a user (MiNdO on IRC, never got his IRL name) who is interested in this
feature and has started work on it.  I think he is watching this mailing
list so perhaps he will provide some input.

If you're interested in doing some development to help implement this
feature please bring it up on the development list (
https://groups.google.com/a/opengeo.org/group/geonode-dev/topics) and I'll
provide an outline of the work that needs to happen.
