First of all thanks to the Geonode team for a very interesting and
useful product! I have been using Geoserver for almost two years and
have been involved in moving it into production at my workplace (*).
Geonode has the promise, or even the presence, of a product which will
be useful both at my workplace and in development aid projects we are
involved in. There are of course some issues :-)
Coordinate system issues
I am trying to remove the default background maps and replace them with
UTM-based (read srses) WMS services as provided by the Norwegian mapping
authorities and also our ArcGIS server. These are set up to deliver in
UTM-based srses only. On top of this I am trying to put uploaded layers
and also wms-services from other geoservers. Pink tiles.
Setup/install
- Suggest short optional input dialogue with user before install.
Request data on server ip etc..
- Make the install less "intrusive". If it is installed on a web server
with more than one domain routed to it the apache2 setup seems to break.
Might be my
Documentation
- It is necessary to establish a separate link to the documentation from
the geonode.org resources list (menu). Currently I have to browse to the
geonode 1.1-RC1 newsitem whereupon I find the "See the documentation"-link.
- http://dev.geonode.org/trac/ Seems to be have been hacked... Car
insurance quotes? Tried to revert to the unhacked version, but the wiki
syntax seems to be broken. Ramp up the security :-)

I will probably host a small training using geonode in Kampala in around
two weeks. The intention is to have the participants start working
towards an environmental clearing house system. The Geonode and
associated software will play an important part in these plans and
properly set up my test server will be a good start for that process.
Looking forward to it :-)
Cheers
