Hi Ben, #1. You can install the dependencies manually and then run install.sh in the release package. I don't know anyone who has done it before with that version of Ubuntu and Postgres.
http://docs.geonode.org/en/latest/deploy/install.html #2. I would say the best time to revise the supported operating systems by the packages is when 12.04 LTS comes out. At least that is when I would like to spend the time creating a branch that uses postgres 9. That said, any patches are welcome. If you want to do it, you can start by cloning github.com/GeoNode/geonode-deb and creating a branch for your updates, changing the version of the postgres page in the debian/control file and compiling and testing the package. I have no idea how the Postgres 9.0, Postgis 2.0, etc is going to play with GeoServer, GeoNetwork and the Django side. But you might be lucky and have everything work by just switching.
