Ben, This should go onto the dev list (cc'd). In fact, just yesterday, I pushed the changes to remove geonode-client completely and use a standard geoexplorer. I dont think we yet have a good story on how to add a custom SDK application into geonode, but maybe Bart or Andreas can jump in to help here.
