Aside - nice work using Axis2; I have just run into it in another project ... we may come back to you with some questions when GeoServer is interested in supporting SOAP/WSDL. In terms of collaboration have a look at the GeoTools process API and let us know if that would be a good way for Java developers to make functionality available to your service.
