Turning on Tiling in WMS previews results in pink tiles

I see this in coverages in the release data set; go to the map preview page and
follow the link to the OpenLayers map for a coverage, for example, sf:dem.
Then set the map to use tiles; all tiles will be pink with error text. I can
reproduce this consistently.
