Right; what happens if I do
-DGEOSERVER_DATA_DIR=/path/to/datadir 
-DGEOSERVER_DATA_DIR_TEMPLATE=/path/to/minimal

Does GeoServer just ignore the template? Does my data get wiped out? Do 
I end up with some kind of combination of the two data dirs?  This is 
the confusion I was talking about.
