Oops. I just had the same experience and lost half a day of work :(

I don't think I was even near the save button, was restarting GeoServer 
a lot. What could potentially have happened is that I had a mixture of 
geotools 2.5-RC1 and 2.5-SNAPSHOT.

I was having issues with my WFSV tables, 
http://geoserver.pastebin.com/m74f53a0f . (There may very well be 
something wrong with them, so it doesn't cause me too much concern.)

Guess I'll look into it tomorrow,
