GeoServer Lists,
Here is a link to the two options for the GeoServer logo. 1) A Pangaea-
style, squishing all abstracted continents together, and 2) A
fictional landmass option…

Please let me know if you have any feedback.

Oh cool, I like the pangaea. Can you just send it to the geoserver
lists?

1) "Pangaea" (It's not really 1 super-continent, but all continents
abstracted.)
2) Fictional Landmass

Could you try to make one that's centered on the easter

Er, the current GeoServer logo
http://geoserver.org/download/userResources/GEOS/logo has about
the same
portion of the world. And PostGIS has even less
http://www.postgis.org/download/logo_suite/stock_elephant/stock_elephant_060.gif
Perhaps we could have two, that people can use as they like? I
don't
like the double one, and the pangaea sounds like it would be weird.

In this week's GeoServer meeting on IRC (logs at http://geoserver.org/display/GEOSDOC/2008/09/16/IRC+Logs%2C+September+16%2C+2008)
we discussed the concerns about the logo that have been brought
up here, namely:
1) The color of the text 'GeoServer' in the powered-by logo does
not contrast with the background strongly enough to attract the
eye, and
2) The eastern hemisphere is excluded from the logo.
In the meeting we decided that (1) is not really problematic (ie,
those at the meeting all agreed that there is sufficient
contrast), but (2) is a valid concern. We plan to have our
designer look into producing a variation on the icon with either
ambiguous continents (we'll call this approach 'No Favorites') or
one that includes all the continents ('Pangaea'), sticking with
whichever looks best in the end. In order to provide concerned
parties some time to give feedback we'll wait a couple of days
before going forward with the redesign though.

hello Chris,
one suggestion based on the fact that the image/icon part of the
logo does not show our part of the world is possibly to have a
pair, side by side, showing the other side of the globe; in
ascii art:
+ +
/ \ / \
+ + + GeoServer
\ / \ /
+ +
otherwise

Hey all, I just put together GSIP 26,

At OpenGeo we have had some designers working to come up with a
proposal for some new icons, and hopefully a more full 'identity'
with fonts and colors. We should also have time to theme the
various
websites. We like the new logos and fonts, but if the
community has
alternate proposals we could use those, and we should still be
able
to spend time theming with whatever the community comes up
with. But
we figured it was easier to just start with a single proposal.
The various pieces can be seen at
http://geoserver.org/display/GEOS/New+GeoServer+Branding
And you can read the guide, for the use of it, at
http://geoserver.org/download/attachments/10158143/GeoServer_Branding
Guide.pdf
If we can vote on this soon we may be able to have new sites in
place
in time for foss4g. Let me know on this email thread what you
all
think.
best regards,
Chris
