Hey all,

We (OpenGeo) would like to get the Google indexing work that we've been
working on recently into GeoServer for the next release. This means
promoting both the geosearch module, and the rest support module that it
depends on so they can be included in the release. The rest support
module already meets the requirements for promotion; geosearch falls a
little short in the testing area, but I am working on bringing it up to
par today and should be finished well before work begins on cutting the
release. I am the maintainer for both modules.

The rest module provides some facilities for using Restlet
(http://restlet.org/) to add plugins to GeoServer; these plugins show up
under <context>/rest/ .

The geosearch module provides a sitemap that allows Google's geo-aware
crawler to index features provided by a GeoServer instance (the admin is
able to enable or disable specific featureTypes if they should not be
indexed.) The index shows up at http://.../geoserver/rest/sitemap.xml
and must be submitted using Google's webmaster tools for indexing to happen.

Thanks.
-David Winslow
