Gzip filter is memory bound, kills streaming
--------------------------------------------

                 Key: GEOS-2626
                 URL: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-2626
             Project: GeoServer
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: Global
    Affects Versions: 1.7.2
            Reporter: Andrea Aime
            Assignee: Andrea Aime
            Priority: Blocker
             Fix For: 1.7.3

The GZIPResponseStream class writes everything out to gzip stream wrapping an
in memory byte array output stream, and dumps the results to the actual servlet
output stream on close. This kills completely every attempt to stream out huge
amounts of GML with low memory consumption.
This is done in order to set the content lenght, which is unecessary since
servlet engines almost never know how big the output will be, and use chunked
mode to efficiently transfer data to clients.
