ecw only in wgs84

I have tested the support for ECW and it seems the GeoServer does not support
ECW-files in proj/date other than WGS84 configured through the UI. Funny thing,
the extend is correctly received from the file (in meters) but WGS84 was
automatically choosen so the preview of the coverage will show up (bbox in
meters got from the extent, srid = epsg:4326 for wgs84?, should be a local one)
but if you call the image through wms interface (using the correct format of
bbox in degree instead of meters for epsg:4326) nothing is shown.
A possible workaround is to have all the images in wgs84 instead of a local
projection... but this seems to be not the best solution at all.
I didn't used any world-files / ers files (just ecw-header information).
