Beginner need help on Geoserver + Tomcat !!

Hello everybody i'm beginner in SIG,
i have to make a project that show a map of a city (Casablanca, Morocco) and
make some search, if the result exist i have to show it in the map.
about the map i have on a shp file (i allready add it in to geoserver). i don't
have a problem in this step.
i created the data base in mysql server and i add all informations about my map
(streets, hospitals, ...) to make query with java.
i installed apach and tomcat and i fusionned them with geoserver.
i w'll develop this application with eclipse (ganymede) also i don't have any
problem with jsp and java.
my problem is i don't know how i can use tomcat with geoserver to make some
query and make results in the map, i searched in geoserver documentation and i
don't found that i need.
really i need your help !!
