SDE raster image has a purple cast

In 1.6.5 the image looks normal but in 1.7.x (all the ones I've tried,
currently nightly downloaded 6/2/2009) it's purplish (at all zoom levels).
The same SDE is referenced for both and the same config info.xml is used for
both GeoServer versions.
The layer is massgis:GISDATA.IMG_COQ2005
Interestingly, the PDF has the right coloring, but the lower left is cut off.
