What would you think about allowing users to add a block of KML code to be appended to the beginning or end of a parsed KML file? Eg. have Geoserver look for a KML file in the featuretype directory like the ".ftl" files?
This would allow the API and GE users to include things like screen overlays, tours or other KML features that are not necessarily feature dependant in the KML request. At the moment the workaround to access features like these is to host and parse separate KML files which are web accessible.
