Hi Andrea,

Thanks for the pointer.  I'm almost there.  The one question I have is how to 
create a new Style.  I'm using the following code:

      style = factory.createStyle();
      style.setName(styleName);
      style.setFilename(styleName + ".sld");

      catalog.add(style);

The .sld files are in the styles directory of my GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR.  But, the 
styles are not created. Should the argument to setFileName be an absolute file 
path, or am I just doing this wrong?
