Erroneous results on WFS getFeature with OGC filter based on date

When I create a getFeature request with a simple filter based on one attribute,
I get 5 results, including one with a "date_creation" attribute whose value is
2009-08-20.
Then, I post the same request with an added condition "date_creation =
2009-08-20", and ... I get no result back.
It seems like PropertyIsEqualTo, PropertyIsGreaterThan, PropertyIsLessThan
don't apply to date fields.
Yet, there's no error message.
