Hi Ben/Victor:

Just a warning that I have a "patch" ready to commit; if possible I 
would like to do so when you are on hand to kick build boxes and yell at 
me if need be.

I did test that the patch works; and geoserver continues to work. 
However given the low-level nature it is worth having a few extra sanity 
checks.

Join me on IRC when you have a moment to co-ordinate.
