Simple, because the relevant bit of GeoServer configuration model,
AttributeTypeInfo,
does not have the faintest idea about namespaces.
GeoServer was built for simple features and it being (slowly) adapted to
complex ones.
I guess that panel could be recoded to follow the feature type generated by
FeatureTypeInfo instead of the config attributes.
