I think it's the character encoding of the terminal / ssh client when
you do the checkout. Make sure it's all UTF-8.

However, if you copy or rename the directory under workspaces/sf/sf
manually it should work ok:

That fixed it on the build server.

Something with encoding? On Victor's advise I added
-Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 to VM, but didn't help.
