If you just want to use the standard OpenStreetMap layer, like at
http://www.openstreetmap.org/ then you can just make it a background layer
in openlayers, and put your geoserver overlays on top.  See
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OpenLayers_Simple_Example  And then add
geoserver layers as WMS layers.

If you want to style OSM data in to a nicer style then you can pull the data
in to GeoServer.  Then you can make custom styles, see for example:

http://sinv-56029.edu.hsr.ch/maps/
http://osm.dev.opengeo.org/geoexplorer/#maps/1

Using OSM in a box - http://dev.ifs.hsr.ch/osminabox/ is probably a good way
to go for that.
