Hi,
this mail is about pushing WPS to extension status. The situation is
imho good enough
for such a move:
- the module has a maintainer (me)
- the code coverage as reported by cobertura is at 46%. It is actually
quite uneven, some
parts are well tested, others not at all (more about this later)
- there is evidence of community interest in the module, as seen on
twitter, blogs,
mailing list and in person at FOSS4G

Long story short, I'd like to push the module into extensions. I guess
this needs
a small GSIP, but before doing it, I'd like to hear from the other developers.
What do you think?

Before moving the module up I'd actually like to split it into three parts:
- wps core (service and built-in processes)
- wps web ui
- wps sextante integration

I'd actually like to promote only the first two, core and web ui, to extensions.
The Sextante integration in the current state is not good and probably needs
a rewrite to make it good, and possibly another heavy refactor to make it
actually useful (Sextante processes follow the push model, which is not very
good for chaining, but it should be possible to make them pull by wrapping each
process in a executor thread). Given the license change in Sextante (to BSD)
most of the code of the integration could/should actually flow back
into GeoTools.

Opinions?

Cheers
Andrea
