You could try, since as far I can see from the log, the geotiffreader isn't
getting the proper SPI (It seems like it isn't properly registered).

which tomcat version are you using?
Is it > 6.0.24?
In that case I would suggest to try the fix recommended in [1].
Basically, what I can see from the log is that the geotiff reader asked
ImageIO for an ImageInputStreamSpi instance on top of a File and it got an
InputStreamImageInputStreamSpi.
However, that spi only deals with InputStream object whilst the source is a
File -> therefore the exception.
The ideal case would be to get a FileImageInputStreamSpi (being the source a
File) and then create a FileImageInputStream stream.
This probably won't happen because you are encountering the issue reported
in that blog post.
