Evan Martin created GEOS-4916:
---------------------------------

Summary: Windows uninstaller should prompt before deleting data
                 Key: GEOS-4916
                 URL: https://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-4916
             Project: GeoServer
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: Windows Installer
    Affects Versions: 2.1.2
         Environment: Windows 7 x64
            Reporter: Evan Martin
            Assignee: Andrea Aime

When the uninstaller is run it deletes the entire GeoServer installation
directory, including the user's data (stores, layers, styles, etc.). This is
done without any warning to the user, which may be unexpected given that many
installers (especially MSI) only delete files that they created. I suggest that
the installer asks the user whether to delete the data or not. If this is too
hard it should at least provide a confirmation prompt, saying which directory
that data is in, and suggesting that the user may want to copy it before
proceeding. Eg. "All your data, stored in C:\Program Files\GeoServer\data_dir,
will be deleted. You may wish to back up it up before proceeding. Continue?"
