I don't think there is a way at the moment. The Java Advanced Imaging
library that we use to manipulate raster data lacks the very notion of
NODATA elements.
What we could do is to write our own interpolation methods that handle
nodata,and then have the code instantiate them accordintly,
this in turn would result in a performance degradation if you have native
JAI installed, since native implementation could not be used anymore
(may not be such a tragic thing, but a loss nevertheless).
Long story short, it's doable, but it requires a directed effort to address
the problem and make sure the performance degradation is there
only if NODATA elements are present in the mix and higher order
interpolations are requested.
