Wow +1
Is the WCS spec getting any more sane? Or is it just extending out towards
infinity or NetCDF ( not sure which is further )

Hi all,
I'm writing to request a new community module where Davide Savazzi and
yours truly
are going to implement a WCS 2.0 with Earth Observation extensions.
As usual with WCS the protocol interface changed fully another time, so we
will have little
overlap with the previous releases, the module will be mostly stand alone.
WCS 2.0 is also loads of fun for a few peculiarities... it has a sort of a
pluggable XML
schema!
In fact the basic WCS 2.0 protocol can only do spatial subsetting, whilst
rescaling,
reprojecting, band selection are each defined in an extension document, with
its own little XML schema extra.
The wcs:Extension element defined here
http://schemas.opengis.net/wcs/2.0/wcsCommon.xsd
gets filled with extra stuff depending on what you want to do.
To add injury to the insult, the extensions above are not released at the
moment,
although they are in public evaluation stage, which means the extension
schemas
are not published yet, that will make generating the model with EMF fun.
My guess, the day we have all schemas we can make a uber
wcsAllWithExtensions.xsd
that imports everything and generate the model from there.
The EO extensions are also another interesting bit, they do add an extra
element
in the capabilities and a extra request that is not part of the basic
protocol
which allows to describe "coverage sets", that is, groups of coverages that
either share a temporal timeline or a spatial mosaicking structure.
My current guess is that this will be enabled or disabled via a flag in the
WCS
configuration.
The work will be performed only on trunk, targetting the 2.3.0 release if
possible, emerging from community later if not.
Cheers
Andrea
