Issue Type: Improvement Improvement
Affects Versions: 2.2.3
Assignee: Andrea Aime
Components: Documentation
Created: 21/Jan/13 10:24 AM
Description:

I've just spent an hour trying to figure out why GeoServer and OpenLayers disagree so much about resolutions and scales.
It turns out that OpenLayers uses 72DPI as its default, and (after some maths) GeoServer's tilecaching uses ~90.714236728597880842858630570625.

Could you please document the DPI used, at least in this section:
http://docs.geoserver.org/stable/en/user/webadmin/tilecache/gridsets.html#tile-matrix-set

Ideally with a cautionary CSS "Note:" telling of this discrepancy. It may also be useful in other locations (the search doesn't find anything pertinent for either "DPI" or "DOTS_PER_INCH" (the openlayers variable).
Thanks.
