Description:

Currently GeoServer uses fixed field formats (particularly char column width) for the DBF file in shapefiles it exports. This can result massively over-sized shapefiles for datasets that have many rows.

This improvement suggestion is to get the field attributes from the original data store (if they exist) and use those for the DBF.
